Our Story

Our story is much like our lives, unique.  At times, it feels like something out of a fairytale, or at least a really cheesy romantic comedy.

Our story goes back to before we even knew each other.
I (Ana) was in my 2nd year of my Masters at ISU (Fall 2012-Spring 2013) when I got the amazing opportunity to participate in an exchange program in Salamanca, Spain.  I spent a year there, where I made amazing friends, and fell in love with the city, the people, and the culture.  At the end of the year, I realized Spain wasn't done with me.  So, as quickly as possible, I got everything in order to start a second masters at the Universidad de Salamanca.

During this year, Nick was working on his first year of his Masters at ISU.  He loved it.  He made friends, golfed, studied Spanish, and made memory after memory.  He decided, however, to apply to the Salamanca exchange for the 2013-2014 academic year.  When he received the exchange, our coordinate at ISU put us in contact, in case he had any questions he wanted to ask before he made the move.

In September of 2013, Nick and I met up in Salamanca.  We had written each other on facebook a few times, and decided we would grab a coffee.  The conversation was good (and if I remember correctly, pretty much just me talking, cuz I talk A LOT...), but at the end, we parted ways, and didn't give it a second thought.
Throughout the rest of the year, Nick worked with two professors that I had worked with the previous year.  I went to help with oral exams, where Nick and I would talk and catch up quickly.  The professors had the tradition that after oral exams, we would all go out for a little, to celebrate the end of the semester.

It was during one of these "celebration nights" that I started to think to myself, "this boy is kinda cute." A little flirting back and forth later, and there's been no looking back since.

The next six months were spent traveling around Spain, getting to know each other, and slowly falling in love.  However, we both knew that after those six months, Nick would go back to the States and I would stay in Spain.  It was time for us to have some serious conversations.  Was this worth it?  Nick would have to agree to move to Spain for a few years, and I would have to agree to move back to the States after said years.

Obviously, we all know the answer.  Nick has come to live in Spain, I've moved from Salamanca to Ferrol, and now we're currently living in Zamora.  We have a small apartment in the west of Spain (near Portugal), a puppy, and lots and lots of love.

But this is only the beginning.  Our story is still being written.
